Inconsistent User Page View Data?

Has anyone noticed inconsistencies in the Page Views data available within the User Profile page, and Gradebook History? I am looking at an instructor's Page Views and it shows the first login of the day at 6pm, while the gradebook history indicates the instructor was grading between 1 and 3 pm, in addition to after 6 pm.

We are trying to get some instructor usage data and are wondering whether Page Views is a reliable metric.

Hey Sarah! I would reach out to Canvas Support to get further insights into the discrepancies you're noticing. One thing to also note is login data can also vary based on login settings and usage (i.e., they could have been logged in on one computer at school grading assessments but then go home to their laptop and log in there to continue grading).

Hi @SarahMurphy2,

Do you know if the course is connected to any third-party resources (such as a textbook publisher) that passes back grades to Canvas?

If it is, do you know if the instructor was using it at that time?

If if is, in my experience with some resources, the gradebook history will show the instructor as the grader even when they were not actively using Canvas.
