Instructure-UI icon font in theme CSS?

I'm working on some custom CSS for my Canvas sub-account's theme and had a question for the community: is there a way to use the Instructure-UI icon font with a ::before or ::after pseudo-element and the 'content' CSS property? I see directions for adding Instructure-UI icons in React apps, but nothing that would work with custom CSS in Canvas -- or in a tag on a Canvas content page for that matter.

I'd be happy to try to help answer this but regarding Custom CSS on the Canvas we are very limited in what we can help with in this case. I suggest looking externally as we are not able to provide recommendations for this type of request.
