What you might be able to do (depending on when the reply/comment was made and deleted) by working with either your school's Canvas team or with Canvas Support is view the discussion from that last time it appeared in either beta (refreshed in Canvas every Saturday) or test (refreshed on the third Saturday of the month).

To add, you may want to try accessing https://[university].test.instructure.com/ and https://[university].beta.instructure.com/ (changing [university] for your university name) and seeing if those pages exist, that may be faster than waiting for your school's support.
