Made content of student lost

Dear community,

A student of mine made a lot of assignments before the summer holidays.
After the summer holidays upon logging in he told me he lost a lot of the made content in those assignments and it was no longer visible.
Is this possible? For example due to an update?
Is there any way to view what he made last year? Maybe in a history tab from that period?

I am assuming that the student was enrolled in the course with the "Teacher" role (or at least a role where he could edit course content)?  If so, has he tried looking in the "Courses" >> "All Courses" screen to see if the course is listed there?  That is where I would first look.  If a student had been removed from the course for some reason, I'm not sure how far back log history may go to see if a Canvas admin might be able to identify the URL of the course the student had access to at one time.  That was just a couple thoughts I had, and I'm not sure if any of it will help or not.  My $0.02 ... for what it's worth.

Hi Robin, notwithstanding @Chris_Hofer 's advice, I would recommend talking to someone who has access to the User Account Details function which lists forensically every clickview and action. This includes every URL address and whether the action was a 'GET' or 'POST'.

Nothing really disappears from Canvas, but it is possible that the assignments were deleted - in which case the 'undelete' function (added after the end of the course ID  would list these.

I always think its an omission that page history is not available for Syllabus and Assignments, but they may be findable through an API call.

If you are still having a problem, I would recommend that you either (a) contact your school's Canvas team or (b) if available based on your school's Canvas license, reach out to Canvas Support directly by using the options available in the "Help" area of Canvas.
