Problem with SpeedGrader annotation tools

Hi!

I am currently correcting reports that were handed in via Canvas as group assignments. Now, when I am trying to correct the reports I need to use the annotation tools (mostly the highlighter and strike through tool) to comment on their text and explain what's wrong.

It has gotten very frustrating because when I try to select the text I want to mark by left-click and drag it takes almost always 3-5 attempts until it reacts and let's me highlight or strike through. (My mouse is fine, it clicks everything else without any problems) I thought it might be that it thinks I am still commenting on the previous comment, so I hit enter to finish comments, but it doesn't help. Also if I just strike through multiple words (or try to) I get the issue that it simply doesn't mark the text I am trying to select right after. 

Am I missing something? or is this a bug? It is very time consuming and drags out report corrections unnecessarily. Could it be connected to the fact that multiple people are correcting submissions? We are obviously not correcting the same reports, but split up assignments from different groups!

I am seriously considering downloading the reports instead although that is so messy and SpeedGrader would be so convenient if it worked, because the time lost, just trying to comment is way too much.

I experienced the same issues. Now the annotation tools are not displayed at all.

Am I understanding that all other annotation tools are reacting correctly, you're just struggling with strikethrough and highlight?  I understand that your hardware is working correctly, have you checked that your browser is up to date and that your internet connection is not interrupted?

Yes, my current work-around is to switch to the selection tool, because that seems to work ok, select some text and then press the highlight or strike-through annotation tool. I haven't worked as much with the point or free text annotation tools, but I think they usually reacted normally. When I got this problem I did check that my browser (chrome) was up-to-date, which it was and from using other websites and web applications, there are no indications of interruptions in the internet connection.

The tools don’t show at all on the last assignment I had to grade. They did on previous assignments. My browser is up to date.

Karen.  Were the file types different between the two submissions?

I wouldn't waste any more time on this, folks. The students have to jump through so many hoops to find our comments that most of them don't bother.

Hey Mark.  We know it can be a bit of a struggle for some.  There are some other use cases shared in https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/3254-making-feedback-more-visible-to-students that you may want to participate in.

Same here - have been dealing with these issues for quite some time. It gets frustrating when you have to provide feedback for over 150+ students using the tools.
