Questions: Posting and grading Video in canvas

This semester, some students have had trouble getting video files to upload on assignments (beyond size issues). Sometimes they get them to upload, but I then need to download them, rather than watching them within Canvas, as I have done in the past. (Some are still having success but we haven't figured out what's making the difference.)

Lastly, unlike past semesters, I've been unable to use the function that allows me to post comments directly onto the video as I watch it. As they start posting drafts of their final projects, it would be incredibly helpful to me to be able to grade in this way.

Which method are the students using to upload/record these videos? Is there a specific format or is it more of a free for all? There is the canvas media recorder that the students can use by default, but anything more than a few minutes should be recorded elsewhere in case there are browser, device, internet issues that can cause the videos not to come through. There is also Studio or Kaltura that many schools use - by chance one of those? Or do the students get to upload any format of video that they want?

I will call Support. This is videos in H.264 format that the students have exported from Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro. They are uploading them to the assignment using the Media function.
