I have a Canvas quiz where a student has every question wrong, I've marked all the items as zero, and Canvas is giving full points--even after adding negative fudge points. How is this possible?
Below, there is an example of an item scored zero (this student didn't put any content into the quiz at all) and the fudge points, but the total remains.
In Speedgrader for this quiz, the ability to change points is not viable, either. All I wanted was a four-item, ten-point quiz as a quick knowledge check. When I first type in the fudge points (-10), the final score flashes -10 and then changes to 10. I'm basically powerless here to actually grade and cannot figure out why.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@lovebrad You might try editing your quiz and checking the Quiz Type selected on the Details tab. I wonder if it might be set to Graded Survey instead of Graded Quiz, because that would explain why students get 10/10 regardless of correctness and fudge points. If so, I think you can select Graded Quiz and Save, then grade the questions for correctness.
Hi @lovebrad,
I do not have an answer why this is happening but I do have somewhere for you to look to get the ball rolling a little bit, as others potentially chime in. Are there entries showing grade changes in the gradebook history?
-Doug
Neat. Didn't know that existed!
I'm unclear, though, what can I learn for this situation from the history? I can see lots of me manually changing the grade and it changing back for this student. There's no indication, such as I understand the interface, of why it's happening.
Not a lot of people know about the gradebook history, @lovebrad, and I typically get a similar response from the faculty at my institution.
For this situation, since I do not know the answer why this is happening but wanted to get the ball rolling for looking into it, my goal for looking at the gradebook history was to see if the LMS is registering multiple grade changes when the intent is only one change.
I am not sure if anyone else in the Community will have any other ideas. You might want to consider following the normal support process at your institution for getting help, which would be either reaching out to your Canvas/IT team or contacting Canvas Support directly.
