Remove free-form comments box from rubrics?

Hi

I'm fairly new to uploading rubrics to Canvas but I have finally figured out the format for importing rubrics. However, I have read somewhere (but can't now find where) that you can remove the free-form comments boxes underneath each criterion? We are not asking markers to write a comment on each criterion, just overall comments. Please can you advise.

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

I am happy to hear that you have learned the format for uploading rubrics in Canvas using the provided template.  When rubrics are imported via CSV, Canvas automatically turns on those comment boxes for each criterion. There’s no way to disable that setting through the normal UI once the rubric is attached, even if you check “Use this rubric for assignment grading” when editing the rubric still will not hide the comment boxes.

Hello @RachAshUoM ,

In addition to what @EvetteDavis has shared, it seems that your institution has enabled enhanced rubrics, which is why you’re seeing the comments box. You may want to consider using the classic rubric in your course instead.

You can disable the Enhanced Rubrics feature preview. See our guide on how to manage feature options for a course. If the option is locked, you may need to contact your Canvas admin for assistance.

If you’re using the rubric in SpeedGrader, the following guides may also be helpful:

Hope that helps!
