I have a student who resubmitted an assignment, but the grade book shows it as late instead of green. How can I fix this? I also tried it without the assignment being late by changing the date, and the grade book status was back to default.

Hi @jsaldana17,
The late status for online assignments in Canvas is basically always governed by the due date. Requesting a resubmit really just notifies the student that you'd like them to make changes and/or try submitting again, but it will not change the due date or exempt anything from the late policy. If you do want to give a specific student extra time for their resubmission to not be late, you could assign that particular student their own due (and available until) date, following the instructions on the How do I assign an assignment to an individual stu... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) guide. When you do this, be sure you leave the "everyone else" entry with the original date settings. if you take away the "everyone else" group, it will basically cause the submissions and grades for all of the other students to be hidden.
Hope this helps!

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the information! How can I make the grade book status show green for a resubmission? I am using this for a training that I am giving and want to make sure I can show how a resubmission green status would appear.
Hi @jsaldana17,
I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to with the green gradebook status. If you mean the green checkmark in speedgrader, you'd need to grade the most recent submission attempt. If you mean something else, could you perhaps provide a screenshot of what you're seeing, as that will help us identify the feature you're referring to more easily.

Hi @jsaldana17 .
Ah, I see you're referring to the gradebook status colors. You can adjust those to your linking following the How do I change the color for a grading status in ... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com) guide.

How can I get a resubmission from the assignment to show the green color in the grade book cell? I am not able to get the grade book to display this.
Jsaldana17, did you ever figure this out? The responses above do not answer the question and I am still unable to figure out how to make the cell show green either - even after multiple student resubmissions. It would be nice if we could just mark it as such as we can with late, missing, excused, etc.
Hi @CKim6, yes, I was able to figure it out. The assignment has to have the option of more than 1 allowed attempt. A grade has to be given for the first attempt. If the student resubmits, then the cell in the gradebook will turn green
Thank you. The assignment was set to "unlimited," scored, and the student resubmitted, but it's only showing up auto-blue (and marked as a late submission). I rescored it as well - still blue. I tried changing the assignment details to "limited; 2" but that didn't change the color either. It's not that big of a deal, though it would be nice to see the green. Thank you so much for responding!!! 🙂
Hi @CKim6, the assignment I tried this on did not have an until or due date. I am assuming that the late assignment is kicking in before the resubmission.
Good point - likely so. I do have a due date but no "available from" or "until". Interesting. Anyone from Instructure want to chime in on this? So I guess my takeaway is that Instructure - just make it so I can manually change it to green from the menu if I want. 😉 Thank you jsaldana17, again, for being so responsive.
