Has anyone heard if Canvas will implement the ability to schedule messages using the Inbox? I use this feature in my other email programs (Outlook, Gmail) and love it.

I do not think that scheduled send is in development yet. I do not see it on the Canvas Roadmap. There is a feature idea for scheduled send, and it was attached to a theme. But that theme was not prioritized.

Hi @ddouglas,

I have had instructors look for this functionality as well and I agree that it would be a welcome addition.  As an alternative, I recommend that instructors create an announcement and use the "Available From" date and time to delay it being available (visible) to students.

How do I delay posting an announcement until a specific date in a course?

I also use this opportunity to encourage (or let them know about) that the instructor uses the "Show recent announcements on Course home page" option so that the most recent announcements are always visible at the top of the "Home" area of the course.

How do I show recent announcements in the Course Home Page?

An advantage to using announcements instead of messages is that you can easily link to content that already exists in the course because of having the ability to use the RCE and to avoid problems with files being stored in a user account's "Files > conversation attachments" folder (which uses up their quota).

Something else to consider with this is (and this is a negative to using announcements instead of messages) is that when copying/importing a course, an instructor would need to use the "Select specific content" option and not select "Announcements".  If the instructor copies/imports the entire course, they would need to remember to delete the announcements so that students do not see them.  While not directly related, this is similar to what is needed with Zoom meetings that were created via the LTI because they exist as "Calendar Events" in the original course.
