Setting per section locations

How do I set a different room number (location) for each section in a cross listed course, when creating a calendar event. I only see a single location box when posting "Use a different date for each section". I would assume most multi section courses aren't all in the same room?

Welcome to the Canvas community!  This is a public discussion board for Canvas users from different schools all over the world.

Where exactly are you setting section dates in Canvas?  I'm not aware of any place in Canvas to specify locations/room numbers for a section.

I guess that’s my question then. Why is there a way to specify time/date by section but not room number/location? Is it typical for large classes to have all the sections in the same room?

Where, exactly, are you seeing a way to "specify time/date by section" in Canvas?

If you are looking at the "start" and "end" dates under the course settings in Canvas, those are for controlling the date range that the students in that section will have access to participate in the course in Canvas.  It is not for telling students where the physical/in person class sessions may be held, since students can't see that section information.

Sorry I should have specified that; for making calendar dates. From there you can select set date by section.

So, you are asking why Canvas course calendar entries do not allow you to add a location?

Per section yes. Why does the Canvas course calendar not allow a per section location when it allows a per section time/date

I suspect that the calendar entries are not necessarily designed with in-person course sessions in mind.

I would tend to agree but there's both a location and address box, and this feature was around long before the pandemic. But maybe. My personal guess is that by section times was added and the database doesn't store location properly (kind of like how repeating events aren't linked in any way)

Hello Cameron,

I just wanted to confirm that currently, there isn't an option to  set location  and filter it  also by  section in the calendar event. You would need to create separate events per section  or within the details just type out location and section association. That is a great idea however, and you should  consider posting it in the idea forum.

I am really sorry, I seem to be really struggling to explain myself here.

The problem I have is that when creating a calendar event for a course with multiple sections I can only set a single location box. i.e. all classes in the section "MUST" be in the same room. I've included a picture of my terrible solution (I say solution, but it's just a lack of information), but happy to hear others.

I cannot, as far as I can see create a separate event for each section, unless I also post every section calendar event to every section.

Note: Our college may also be totally crazy and every other educational institution requires that every section be offered from the same room.
