Hi. I'm still receiving quiz notifications when I've clicked on "All Submissions" which says that I'll get "Assignments (except quizzes) submission/resubmission." I have grading clicked off. Not sure why I'm getting a notification every time a student does a quiz which is automatically graded. Help!
Hello @dubliners099
Thank you for contacting the Canvas Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with your notification settings. Thank you for providing those screenshots up front. It does appear that you shouldn't be receiving notifications for quiz submissions based on your personal preferences. Is the quiz you took a screenshot of a new or classic? Does the quiz appear within the assignments tab in your course or only quizzes tab?
Because of the complexity of the issue, and the concerns for privacy, it would be best if you contacted Canvas Support directly to pinpoint the source of the issue and provide a resolution:

Well, I was on with Canvas Support for 15-20 minutes. They tried everything. We went through every notification I had toggled on. The staff member, Matthew, even asked colleagues for solutions. None. No ideas. No explanation.
My own tech support recommended that if I turned the "Grading" button OFF and left the "All Submissions" button ON, I should only get notifications for assignments (not quizzes). I had already done that. Still getting constant notifications for every auto-graded quiz.
I finally changed my "All Submissions" from "Notify Immediately" to "Daily Summary." At least I'll only have to troll through one long email notification, right?
I didn't have this issue in Spring 2022 when I taught using Canvas. Not sure why I'm having it now. And Canvas doesn't know either. It's frustrating.
Just a confirmation that now that I'm getting a daily summary, that daily report DOES include quizzes as well as other assignments. I hope that Canvas can find out what they changed and change it back. It's very difficult for faculty to roll through 20 descriptions of who has done what to find the items that they actually need to look at.
Here's my recommendation: Turn off ALL NOTIFICATIONS for grading. You don't need them. Just check your To-Do List. Everything you need to grade will be there, including Classic Quizzes.
The To-Do List is your "best friend" in terms of grading. It shows Assignments (both original submissions and resubmissions), Classic Quizzes (anything not automatically scored), and graded Discussions.
The ONLY notifications I've signed up for is when a student sends me an Inbox Message or I send out an Announcement. No monthly summaries, no weekly summaries, no daily summaries..... All of these summaries are redundant, and I don't see any reason to clog up my email account with them.
Until your problem is fixed, why not just get a weekly summary, and then ignore it?
I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm a college writing professor and I need to know immediately if a student turns in an outline or rough draft so I can help them before they get to a final draft. Although I am constantly checking Canvas, I find that a notification helps in these cases.
I think what frustrates me is that the "All Submissions" button actually says that it won't include quizzes... so why is it including them? Last semester, Spring, I clicked the "All Submissions" button on and it never notified me of quizzes, so what changed at Canvas? Even the Canvas tech support person agreed that it was not supposed to notify instructors of quizzes, but it is doing that.
Hello @dubliners099
Thanks for providing more information regarding the issue. If you had contacted Canvas Support, they should have given you a case number. If the case cannot be resolved upon the initial contact, it can be sent to another tier of support for further investigation once the first representative is able to replicate the issue on their end, which it sounds like they have. If there is an issue with this feature, Canvas will want to know so other don't experience the issue as well. Please feel free to follow up on your case in order for it to get the appropriate audience and attention it deserves.
I just contacted Canvas with my case # from 6/3. The technician, Matthew, claimed it was closed when in reality, nothing was resolved.
After converting my Classic Quizzes to New Quizzes, I am experiencing the same situation [receiving notices for each quiz submission that is already automatically graded] as this original poster. I appreciate the notices for all of the assignments that I do need to grade myself, but don't need the flood of emails for automatically graded quizzes. Has this feature still not be solved over the last 2 years based on this thread's ending that seems to lack closure?
