Student getting an error when submitting student annotation assignment

I have a student who cannot submit annotation assignments. She is using Chrome, and after she annotates and hits submit, she gets an error that says TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'focus'). Then Canvas reloads the essay and deletes all her annotations. 

I have never seen this before. How can she fix it?

I would start by clearing the cache in the Chrome browser to see if that clears up the issue. Another thing I would check is to make sure they're running at least the latest version of Chrome.

If neither of those resolve the error, I would then file a support ticket with Canvas.
