Hello,
Wanted to see if anyone else has encountered this weird issue. An instructor at our institution had an assignment due on Dec 14 at 11:59 PM and saw the next day that multiple students were marked as late in Grades and manually gave them 0s. The students contacted them and then the instructor reached out to us.
What is odd is that the students' submissions are all on-time but they were still marked as late in Grades? In SpeedGrader it shows the original submission time and they do not have the LATE label on them in the submissions to view area.
Also, assignment has Turnitin enabled if that is relevant.
Solved! Go to Solution.
I ended up contacting Turnitin Support and they escalated the issue. I'll try to update if they find out anything.
Hi @NoelleHoenig ,
On the Turnitin Integrations Known Issues page, there is an entry titled: The submission date and time updates when an assignment is graded. (I'd link direct to the entry, but their anchor links don't seem to be working correctly.)
We have identified an issue where the Turnitin submission date and time displayed within Canvas will update when the assignment is graded, rather than retaining the original submission time and date. Turnitin and Instructure are exploring a fix for this issue.
Could this be the cause of the issue your instructor is facing?
On further reading though, I think your case sounds slightly different. You may want to contact Canvas and Turnitin support for them to follow up on this.
@nuscitpkg I am not sure that is the issue. From reading the Known Issues for Turnitin, it seems that would only apply if making a Turnitin Assignment via the LTI. This case seems to just have the Turnitin Plagiarism Framework enabled.
@NoelleHoenig I would recommend reaching out to Instructure Support, as they can look at the specifics of this issue. I have not come across this in our instance.
