Total to Display as Points versus %

I an an instructor who has used Canvas for years.  I did consult the Canvas Community re: this first.  Canvas seems to have done away with the "Display as Points" option in the Total column for the Gradebook.  Why?  I have each  assignment set to record as points and would like the Total to display as points versus a %.  The only options I see now are "Sort By," "Move to End," and "Apply Score to Ungraded."  Can the "Display as Points" be accessed some other way?

If you're using the classic gradebook, that option should still exist for you.

However, if your school has moved to Enhanced Gradebook Filters, that option is not available. Each school can opt-in for this feature, so it may be your school's Canvas Admin may have more information they can share with you.

I would agree with @KristinL ; however, I just went into my playground to setup my gradebook as points (I use %weighted for my courses and therefore don't get the points option anyway).  I turned on the enhanced gradebook filters.  The filters option was running and I did have the option to toggle between points and percentages on my total column.  I also noticed that there were changes to the filter section compared to last week.  So maybe in the last 24 hours or so Canvas has pushed an update to the enhanced filters configuration in Canvas and the problem you saw is now fixed.

If the problem has been fixed for you, please post back.  And if it has not been fixed, then also post back.  

But at least in my play7ground with me being able to select enhanced filters, I do not see the problem (I don't know if it existed previously for me).

@Ron_Bowman  -  That would be awesome! I just checked my sandbox, and I don't have the ability to display as points from the total column with the Enhanced Filters enabled. I'll check again tomorrow to see what I experience! @gdandrea, I'm curious to hear about what you see!

@KristinL - yes that would be great.  However, I just remembered that our Canvas admins have a relatively new hire that does a lot of script incorporation into our instance of Canvas.  So, that may be something he did - or something strange happened because my playground was originally in weighted mode and I switched it to points.  I did toggle back and forth after that with no ill affects, so maybe going to weighted and then unweighting the gradebook turns that feature back on???

In working with the filters some, they definitely changed that display from last week - unfortunately it was to a worse state.

The tech team at my college figured this out and e-mailed me the fix.  I had to go in to ASSIGNMENTS and uncheck the "weighted" option and save it, and then go to the GRADEBOOK and click on the three dots to pull up the options.  The "Display as Points" did show up then and I was able to change it.

That was a good find by your Tech Support! I used Canvas for a long time (8+ years) before joining Instructure, and I'm still learning new things.  😊

How do I use the Total column in the Gradebook?   -->   When assignment groups are weighted, points cannot be displayed for the total grade.

I really appreciate the follow-up! I'll go see if there are other places around the Community where I can share this.

Yes that is correct and actually what I unclearly stated in one of my earlier posts.   I incorrectly assumed that you were already unchecking the weighted assignment grouping from the original post,  so I did not respond with the information you found on your own.
