Typing pauses due to refresh?

I have this issue all the time and it's SO frustrating. It just started happening this year (2025, maybe 2024), but never happened before.

ISSUE: While typing in Speedgrader, the page briefly bounces (as if a quick refresh has just occurred). Then, no more words will be shown in the textbox, even though you are still typing on the keyboard. 

I have to look at my fingers when I type, so sometimes I will be 50+ words in, look over at the text box, and NONE of it will be typed. I have to click the cursor back to where everything stopped and start typing again there. 

To reference some of the questions being posed about this in another post:

- It happens on my work computer and my old home computers (my old Chromebook and my brand new laptop), so it's not computer-specific.  

- It happens to my colleagues, too. I found that out after complaining to them, and they were like, "That happened to me, too!"

- It doesn't matter what I have my screen size set to (100%, 80%, etc.).

- It makes grading at least 20x longer than it otherwise would.

Canvas, please fix this ASAP.

Hi @jwarren7,

I know we have one faculty member here who experiences this issue, but it's not something myself (the main Canvas admin for our institution) or any of our other support staff have been able to replicate.  We have speculated at this point that the issue could be related to browser extensions or firewall/security software, but we can't conclusively prove it.  If you and other users at your school/institution can replicate this regularly, i'd definitely recommend that you contact Canvas support to report it if you have the option (reporting here in the community may make some other Canvas users aware of the issue, but this is not a place where Canvas engineers take bug reports).

As a workaround, you could try enabling the enhancements for Speedgrader as mentioned in the Introducing Performance and Usability Upgrades for... - Instructure Community - 645453 if your Canvas admins have made the option available to you.  It's still in a preview state, so you might encounter other issues, but it would be interesting to know if all the improvements that have been made there actually have the issue taken care of already.
