Will Canvas automatically introduce weekly discussions as assignments in the Fall 2023 course calendar, or do I have to add them again to the Calander?  I ask, because I am setting up assignments in the practice shell that I hope to migrate over for my Fall 2023 course.

It's your course. Whatever you want added to your course, it's your job to add it. Canvas doesn't set up weekly discussions. You do.

If I understand correctly, you'll be setting up your course in a development ("sandbox") course. Then once you have your actual Fall 2023 course shell, you'll want to "import" the course content from the development course. That's easy to do.

I recommend that you set up everything in your development course except for the dates. Wait until you have imported the content into your actual fall semester course. Then assign the dates for the discussions, assignments, quizzes, and so on.

Hi Linda,

If you create a graded discussion in the course and assign a due date to it, that due date will show up in the calendar automatically, you don't have to go the extra step of adding it to the calendar...is that what you're asking? 

I would echo what Susan posted about not putting in due dates in the practice shell, but wait to do that in the actual Fall course once you have imported the content from the practice.
