import - old section there

I did a course copy into a new section. I have done this many times before. This time it copied all my previous students. It never did this before. The title of the course has the old course name. It appears the course copy brought in the old section of the course. I am trying to delete the old section and it won't let me because there are still students in the course. But I am the only person in the course. How can I delete myself and still edit the course?

All I want to do is copy the content from the last course I taught into a new blank shell. I do not want multiple sections. What did I do wrong?

Hey @ianagust ,

This is some interesting behavior. Unfortunately, you are not able to remove any sections from your own account. This would be something that you'd need to reach out to your Canvas administrator for assistance with, or, you could add another individual to your course as a teacher and they can edit your sections for you. Just be sure you don't add them to the section you want to delete, and that they can interact with all course users.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns!

Hi @ianagust,

Rather than use the "copy course" function, I always find it easier to start in a blank shell and use the import function.  In the end you end up with the same basic result, but with less ways to potentially have things go wrong.  Doing things this way may mean your Canvas admin may have to make the empty course for you if you don't have the ability to do that yourself, but I think that would be a good tradeoff.

I hope this helps in some way.
