My question is about the SIS ID’s Added to Course Tray interface update. Our SIS ID numbers in Canvas courses are a really long string of alpha-numeric characters. I reached out to Canvas Support as soon as I saw this update, and the tech I chatted with confirmed that, for our Canvas environment, users would be seeing something like this under the course names:
...as this is similar to the format that comes from our SIS.
I'm sure users wouldn't understand what this is or why it has now appeared under their course names in the "Courses" fly-out tray. Will this be an "opt in" / "opt out" feature? Or, will there be a way to hide this from users? I'm not sure that I'd want our users to see this long string of characters under each of their courses. 😟😕
I'm a fan of the fixed footer in settings, but was disappointed to see that it only worked on the "Course Details" tab in Settings. I'm actually much more likely to forget to save after making changes in the navigation tab. Also, in Course Details, the button is labeled "Update Course Details," but in the navigation tab, the equivalent button is labelled "Save." Porque no lo mismo?
The "fixed" footer makes a lot of sense in the "Navigation" tab of "Settings".
The fixed footer does look nice on a course "Settings" page. Did anyone notice that on the Canvas Dashboard, the Instructure logo and links to Privacy Policy, Cookie Notice, etc. seem to be higher up on the screen with additional unused white space below it?
I don't know if this is related at all...but just thought I'd share.
Hi @Chris_Hofer, I see the extra white space as well on our beta environment.
A couple things with this deploy...
1 - In beta right now, I do not see SIS_IDs appearing next to the term as shown in the screenshots here. I was actually checking to see if there would be a way to hide that, as for us the course and term field are much more helpful to users and the sis_id would probably cause more confusion than anything (especially for students).
2 - The "fixed footer" in course settings is basically not accessible when acting as another user. The pink bar on the bottom covers up the fixed footer. Can that be adjusted before release?
-Chris
I noticed the same thing for the "fixed" footer when acting as another user.
