I'm noticing a couple of issues with the Custom Grading Statuses, here is a quick screencast (20sec, no audio) where I set up a new status called "Incomplete", in pink.
In reviewing the Custom Grading Statuses update again, this week, we noticed some changes:
I agree that the lack of text in the gradebook view is a significant limitation - why is it there for "excused" but nothing else??
Excused is "the grade" - thus the text is displayed in the gradebook. With the other choices, a grade can still be entered (20% or 60% for incomplete for example).
This is excellent! Is it part of the development plan to make it possible for sub-accounts to have custom grading statuses? My instance is used by four colleges and we have separate sub-accounts for professional development. This feature will be much easier to promote if each of those entities can have input.
Is there a way to make a grade status change the score to a particular grade (ie. Absent would not count in the final grade for that student)?
The custom grading statuses feature is a nice idea but really not helpful at the Root level. The subaccount level would be an improvement, but it really needs to be a course-level feature to see any kind of adoption at our institution (medium-sized higher ed).
Agreed. I need this on a course level. I am one of only a few teachers who uses an ungraded scheme in my courses (private high school), where revised and resubmitted work is essential, but sometimes not done online through a resubmission. I would like to be able to select this status for students who have resubmitted, but right now it only pops up if the assignment is submitted through Canvas, the student resubmits online, AND I change their individual due date to something later, which is far too many steps for something that should be one click. If I can choose "excused" or "missing" in one click, why can I not choose "resubmitted" or "revised" without having to change the options for the entire school? (Also, many of our faculty are much more adept at using Canvas than the IT people who have Admin access... it would make more sense to give courses this access and then allow admin to view who is using what if they want to monitor.)
