How do I use Differentiation Tags to provide extended time on quizzes for a student with accommodations?

In the FAQ on Differentiation Tags, it says they can be used "for students who need extended time on assignments."  However, I don't see a way to extend the time on a timed New Quiz (e.g., give 1.5x time for a student with accommodations; the quizzes are delivered through Respondus Lockdown Browser).  I can assign differentiated access and due dates using the "Assign Access" setting, but I cannot extend the time limit on a quiz in "Settings" as far as I can see (screenshot below).

So, how do I use Differentiation Tags for a student who needs extended time on quizzes? 

If tags won't do it, how do I give extended time on a quiz to student(s) with accommodations?

Within the Differentiation Tags • FAQ - Instructure Community - 639336 that you referenced above, I think you are referring to the question and the bullet points for:

What are some examples of how I can use Differentiation Tags in my course?

• Create a tag for students who need extended time on assignments.
• Tag students who prefer visual learning materials.
• Tag students according to their interests for project-based learning activities.
• Identify students who might benefit from extra support or challenges.
• Use Tags to segment students for moderators/graders.

I've highlighted the first bullet point above as it says you can create a tag.  In my opinion, this is different than actually extending the time for a student.

There are a couple New Quiz Guides that I'd like to direct your attention to (which you may have already checked out):

• How do I moderate a student's quiz attempt in New Quizzes?
• How do I add accommodations for a student in New Quizzes?

Thanks Chris!  This is what I was looking for.  From the Differentiation Tags FAQ, I thought that they were somehow part of the process of adding extended time for a student with accommodations, but it seems that is not the case.  I appreciate your help!!

I have been able to try out differentiation tags a bit, so I think I may be able to provide a bit of clarity here...

Differentiation tags, once created, can be used in the "Assign to" area to extend due/available until dates for assignments (and quizzes).  I believe that's what that FAQ is referring to.

Differentiation tags cannot, to my knowledge, be used in any way for quiz (either classic or new) moderation.  So while the tags can be used to extend the quiz due date for tagged students, they could not be used for something like a time multiplier or extension on a timed quiz.  This could change in the future, but is the current state of things as I have experienced them as of right now.

Is there a way to add these accommodations for students in a way that automatically applies it to all future quizzes or a way to give the same time extension to multiple students at once? I'm currently adding the extra time one by one and I have to do it for every quiz.

Hi @ZACHARYYINDRA,

If you're using New Quizzes (not Classic Quizzes), you can add an accommodation for a student, and that will apple to all New Quizzes in that particular course.  That option does not work with tags, but it should save a lot of time vs needing to moderate each quiz for each student that needs an accommodation.

I see. I had looked at that page but didn't see anything about the accommodation's applying to all quizzes; I assumed it was merely for that specific quiz. Looking now, I can see the accommodations I set for my first quiz have indeed been applied to future quizzes.  Thank you very much!
