When the University of Bergen began piloting Canvas last fall, the “American” assessment philosophies built into Canvas immediately challenged the University’s existing assessment model, where a final exam constitutes the entire grade. The Canvas toolset implicitly encourages active learning and formative assessment, and this has already impacted assessment practices at UiB.
