This will be a true escape the room experience housed within a Canvas course. What happens if you don't escape in time? No big deal! You will have access to the course after the session and can escape whenever you want.
| The course for this session will be housed within resources.instructure.com. If you do not have an account for this instance of Canvas, you can save time by creating an account before this session. (Make sure to remember your password!) |
What will you experience when you attend?
Benefits of escaping:
Your choice regarding ways to participate in the escape:
However you decide to participate is entirely up to you. No matter what, you should be able to experience features within Canvas while also learning about the Canvas community.

Hello @jhough ! Yes it is planned for a breakout session. It is currently planned for Thursday, July 26, 2018 3:25 PM - 4:05 PM. Guess I should have put that in the blog post, huh?
Lol! It's all good. I know that session caught my attention and I'm pretty
sure I marked it. See you there! Super excited!

I realized I did not answer your second question @jhough . Sorry! Canvas.net and resources.instructure.com appear to be two different instances of Canvas. I have accounts on both and when I log in I see two entirely different sets of courses. If you do not have an account at resources.instructure.com you may want to create an account there too.
Do you have any thoughts on this stefaniesanders?
Thanks for the great feedback @GideonWilliams ! Yes, It did take "ages" to create this course. Of course, people could do it in much less time. Knowing it was going to be presented at Instructurecon, I wanted to make it as good as I could and focused on many little details that I may not have worried about otherwise. Then again, knowing how I do things, I might have put the extra effort into the small details otherwise. lol
I definitely plan to look at other ways to incorporate newer and older Canvas features. Looking forward to finding other possibilities.
Hi Thank you for sharing this after the conference. I love the idea of escape rooms - having created real ones for students I have wanted to transfer the idea to the environment. I also like the idea of making them a choose your own path. lots of creative potential here .
Will get to work on some ideas!
Escape the Carnival was revived today at OETC (Ohio Educational Technology Conference). If you have not been in the course yet and would like to see an engaging way to gamify a Canvas course, you can enroll at tinyurl.com/canvescape. Would love to hear your thoughts on this course as well as ideas you have used in Canvas course(s) to engage and/or gamify for students/staff.
Howdy Ryan,
I found the Instructurecarn 2018 Escape Room presentation by accident while trying to recall how to set up my own Escape Room assignment for students. Unfortunately, it appears that Instructure has experienced a change or two, so the hints provided for the escape room exercise no longer have corresponding links...number of blog posts, for example.
Last summer I took a "Build Your Own Escape Room" PD, but this is the first time I'm getting prepared to implement the idea into my course and am trying to remember the steps. Do you know of any solid, high school level science resources which I could reverse engineer as I make my first attempt at my own escape?
Thank you very much for your kind assistance!
