The Sync to SIS list needs options to sort, filter. We haven't identified any options. Search would be good too.
Currently, when you hit the option to Sync Grades, the pop-up list is filled with all items that you want to sync. You can then check or uncheck items from that list. THAT list is built based on what assignments have sync turned on. If you have older assignments, maybe from a prior quarter or semester, I suggest turning of the sync for those assignments. You can do that on the Assignments page by just clicking on the sync symbol on the far right for each assignment you want to turn off. So go from green to black in color. This will reduce the list in that pop-up. Depending on which SIS you are using, this could also reduce some errors that can potentially hinder the sync process.
Beyond that, there is not a way to filter the list that I have seen yet. Another option to consider is going to Sync Grades on the left course navigation list and turn on Nightlight Sync. This auto-sync everything over night (the exact time varies). The only time I use the Sync to SIS option on the Grades page is when I am updating some last minute submissions right before a progress report it produced, of if a bunch of students have been trying to get caught up before a grade check by their coach.
Thx Jeff!
Still not entirely satisfactory, which is the case w/ much of Canvas...other LMSs.
You did remind me of the turning off sync, which I tested before reading on.
The best option is to go to Assignments, select the prior marking period and clicking all the green sync icons. Pretty fast and I think I can train, remind our teacher of that. One more thing though...checklist is fairly long🙄
Cheers
If it helps to know, I put in a feature request to add the ability to Sync/Unsync by due dates for the purpose of mass changing items from past terms (more details here). This was actually related to that potential error I mentioned. It is part of a theme (Canvas's new system for tracking sets of related feature/update requests) that will hopefully be included on the next round of voting. The next one was due for February, but I'm guessing I missed that announcement. So October is the next round.
I would suggest, if you feel that have a filter would be helpful, to submit an idea. I do not see anything matching your suggestion on the theme (liked above) for the gradebook. Your idea could be useful for many, so I hope you consider submitting it.
@RichardKinsey Instead of reminding teachers to disable the "Sync to SIS" on assignments in past grading periods, you may want to consider the option to "Automatically disable "Post to SIS" on assignments when grading period closes" that is available in the SIS Syncing settings section of the Admin > Account > Settings. More information on the various SIS Integration settings available there can be found in How do I manage student information system (SIS) integration settings for an account?
