Does Canvas Mail save messages as you are type them? I spent a long time typing a detailed message to students and I pushed something and the mailbox disappeared. How do I recover the draft message?

Canvas
Is there a way to save a draft for a discussion for later? It is annoying how whenever the page refreshes, it deletes any text in the reply box.
Here is a question from one of our students:
Do you know how to retrieve a written assignment on Canvas? I wrote a reflection and went to add a picture and then my text disappeared! Took me 2 hours to write! Where would my draft be?
I've noticed in other threads that there is no autosave, however those posts were 4 years ago.
Is there anyway to find this draft?
Appreciate your help, thank you!
How can students save a draft discussion post?
You can save your projects as drafts before you publish them to your profile.
Open Profile
To open your profile, click the Me icon in the top menu navigation [1], and then click the View Profile link [2].
Open Drafts
Click the Drafts tab.
View Drafts
Your project drafts display on the Drafts page. To view a project, click the project's name [1]. To open the project Options menu, click the Options icon [2]. To edit the project, click the Edit icon [3]. To delete the project, click the Delete icon [4].
my computer battery just died and everything i typed for an assignment is erased. all my work lost. so tired of this. we are in 2022 this should not happen anymore

Hi CANVAS Community,
A Student wrote me the following email:
"I have a request about the platform, I am trying to add different files as sometimes I do it from work on my spare times and not using my computer the whole time so that means I cant save it. As I send the assignments sometimes things are missing and I would like to add them but the platform only allows me to add a new attempt for the assignment which is weird cause in lexis training we could do that last time.
I spoke to my teacher and practically said that I should save it in my computer but I told him about my situation.
The point is I need to add a new doc. but used all my attempts. How can we do it so I dont loose my work that I didnt save it was all sent.
Thanks for understanding and hopefully you could help me."
So my queston is can students save Draft answers?
Can we program the canvas site where the progress of the student's work is saved until they are ready to submit it.
I am a student using Canvas. Two days ago, I had a text entry draft saved with over 900 words. I reloaded the page frequently to ensure the draft was saved. When I accessed the assignment today, the draft was not present. The work assigned by my teacher is long-form and suggests work over the course of multiple weeks, I had left the assignment saved in order to work on it later.
Why does this happen in multiple cases?
Why does this issue persist after years of complaints?
Is this due to poor design or storage of online files on Canvas?
Is there an unclearly stated limit to how long the drafts last?

A major design flaw with Canvas is that it will save your progress on a discussion post so that you can access it later until it randomly decides to delete it. I find it incredibly frustrating that I completed a discussion post days ago and it had saved everything I typed on there so I thought I would wait a few days to post. Now all of my work is deleted, thanks for nothing Canvas! What is the point of saving the drafts for a limited time??????? Also, if you are only going to save my draft for a few days, maybe tell me that so I don't come back to post it and find that everything I wrote is now gone!!!!

It would be a great idea to add a "save draft" feature in the discussion board reply posts. This would allow learners to begin and update their work as the week progresses and avoid the back and forth of cut and paste from a .doc or other source. Suggesting as a student and staff. Is available tool on other LMS.
