How can I pass a bank of questions already created with the previous format to the new quizzes format?

Thank you for contacting the Canvas Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with converting question banks to item banks. It is certainly a possibility albeit a multi-step process. Basically, we will put the questions into a quiz, export that quiz, and then import the item bank using the QTI import process.

Also, you can simply migrate classic quizzes to new quizzes if you weren't aware. Hopefully this helps!

When you export quizzes that pull from item banks, the banks do not export with the quiz. The quiz will be copied simply as an empty quiz.

Please advise.

It says "Also, you can simply migrate classic quizzes to new quizzes if you weren't aware" THAT IS NOT TRUE. When I migrate my Classic quizzes, to New quizzes they do not have any questions in the new Item Bank. This is anything but simple.

@allison_adams That is an excellent write up of the process.  Thank you for sharing it.  

I think this quirk stands to trip lots of folks up (it did me for a bit):

Note: This name will eventually be overwritten with the name of the quiz you exported in Part 1, Step 4. 

While the process as outlined seems manageable for a moderate number of Question Banks, for someone with a large number of Question Banks it would be rather burdensome.   This method is a step along the way, but hopefully a simple Question Bank to Item Bank migration utility will become available soon.

I also have not yet been able to get my head around the subtleties of Item Bank sharing.  It would be great if the person who created this very clearly written document could add a section about how to make the migrated Item Bank available to anyone who formerly was able to access the Question Bank, which I think is essential to completing the migration process.
