I would like for a visual indicator to confirm that a professor and/or TA wants to assign a student points that are higher than the value of an assignment.

Example:   An assignment is worth 2 points and the Professor/TA assigns 4 points to a student.

Here's the process as I envision it:

1. Professor/TA assigns point value higher than what the assignment is worth.

2. The point value changes color (red?) indicating that the points assigned are higher than the value of the assignment (maybe also a yellow exclamation mark?).

We recently had a professor who, not paying attention, awarded points for an assignment on a 100 point value when the assignment was based on a per instance value and there are only 2 instances required.  A warning flag of some type could have prevented this.

Panda-Cat: A mythical creature that we dreamed up to catch your attention, make you laugh, and encourage you to keep reading the explanation of our archive process for Feature Ideas

Archive: An archived Feature Idea is not dead forever, but it has been taken out of stage progression.  When Community members submit feature ideas they are reviewed by the Community Team and then put to a vote by the community at large.  If the idea does not receive 100 votes within 3 months it will be archived.  Ideas that reach the 100 vote threshold within the first three months remain open for voting. Find more information about this process at How does the voting process work for feature ideas?

Can archived ideas still become a feature?  Yes.  Some feature ideas that do not receive 100 votes are resubmitted by Community members and find more supporters as people's needs change, rising more quickly to the top.  Oftentimes archived feature ideas are evaluated in groups when we are preparing to refactor a particular tool or feature of Canvas and may still influence product direction.

Renee,

As far as I can tell (based on your 2016-09-17 release notes) the features the teachers are requesting here have NOT BEEN implemented into Canvas.  The only thing that has been done is added a pop-up feature which many teachers do NOT want.  In addition, the pop-up comes and goes and when a teacher is doing mass grading, they may not see this (especially if they're using a 10-key and not looking at the screen).

The feature that teachers want is some sort of flag or color on the assignment if it exceeds or goes negative.  This has NOT been included as far as I can tell.  Am I not reading the release notes correctly?  Please advise.  My district is adopting Canvas for this next school year and this is a feature we had on our previous LMS (School Loop).  Many teachers in our district are dismayed that there's only a pop-up.

Please advise.

Thank you.
