Hello,
I have four sections in my MBA class. One of my classes mentioned that they can view announcements I post for other sections. However, I only want them to see announcements intended exclusively for their section. At some point, I'll be sharing links, etc., that shouldn't be visible to the other sections. How can I fix this?

Hi @HituSood,
Without having access to your Canvas environment to really look over sections, enrollments, act as the students, etc, this is very hard to troubleshoot. Unfortunately, the Instructure Community is comprised of Canvas admins, teachers, and students from around the world, and as such, we do not have any kind of access to your Canvas account or course. I'd recommend that you contact Canvas support through whatever means are available to you at your school to see if they can investigate this further. I can just confirm the behavior you're describing here would not be the norm for Canvas.
Hope this helps a bit, even though it's not an exact answer.

Hi @HituSood,
When you create your announcement, you'll want to pay particular attention to the Post To option (the Select Sections part of the guide). You can select the correct section(s) for the announcement and only students enrolled in the section(s) you select will receive it.
Hope this helps clarify things!

Hi @HituSood,
If you have the Post To set to a specific section, students outside of that section should not be able to see the announcement. If you originally had the announcement Post To set to the whole class, students may have received notifications with the content, and they'd still see those in their email even if you changed the Post To setting later. Thats's really the only thing I can think of that would be happening here.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the response. It's interesting because when I posted the announcement, I specifically selected to post it in one section only. For example:
I sent an announcement in Section J, G, H, and I. Section J is saying that, aside from the announcement I sent specifically FOR THEM, they could also see the announcement that I sent in sections G, H, and I. It's kinda odd because I did not select to post it to "Everyone."
Let me know, please. Thank you!

Hi Chris,
No worries. Thanks for your help!
I agree with HituSood. This method does not work at my school. Although I follow these instructions and the announcement says it is only going to my sections, it still goes to all sections. This has caused some difficulty with certain students getting information they should not have.
The problem may be in how my school has set up Canvas. It is also possible that Canvas does not work the way it is supposed to work.
