Can students see announcements before the course beginning date? I want to send a "Welcome" note.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@ral10 The course needs to be open (within the course dates) as well as published. We have a lot of faculty that miss the publishing part or do it immediately after the sending of the announcement which will not work. The announcement will be there when they do get access to the course but they will not get any notification of, such as the email, until the course is active.
Hope this helps!

I teach at a community college. Before the semester begins, I send out a "Welcome Letter" as an email through my college's SIS. In my Welcome Letter, I direct my students how to log into Canvas and access my published course.
Using the student's email address for the initial pre-semester contact works well. Once the semester begins, then I switch over to Canvas Announcements.
