Assignments accessible after available date/time?

Hi all!

So, I need to preface with saying I work in a Title 1 middle school, with great (but sneaky) kiddos. For my big unit quizzes, I use Google Forms because of their Lockdown Quiz feature that works perfectly with student Chromebooks. 

On Canvas, though, I will post the link in the instructions of an Assignment so I can still upload grades to my SIS and link to Mastery Connect as normal. 

With the weather being so crazy in the southeast, this entire week has been virtual and my Admin instructed me to not push back this unit quiz. So I set up the Assignment to have the "Available Until" & "Due Date" time coincide with our bell schedule. 

The only thing is, a couple of my first period kiddos were able to access the Assignment and therefore the Google Form link after the "Available Until" time I set for the Assignment. 

I contacted one of their mothers and she told me her student was able to access the quiz link around 9:30AM, but I had my first period times set for 8:10-9:10. 

I'm just very confused as to how they can get around this. I was very meticulous when I was setting these sections and times, since I know my kids well, and if they can cheat, they will. So any guidance or answers would be very beneficial!

@JayMaldonado Welcome! Without more information we can't really help, but here are some things to check:

1) Is the student in the correct section? Sometimes students can end up in two sections of a course at once or even in the "default" section by accident.

2) Is your course timezone correct? (Go to Settings and check the Time Zone field)

3) When you set up the times, did you make sure that it's set to AM and not PM? 

In addition, it could be that it's not a Canvas issue at all and the students are sharing the quiz link amongst themselves.

1. No, the students are in the correct sections.

2. Yes, it's correct.

3. Yes, I made sure to set it to AM, as I was afraid something like that could happen. I made sure to triple check the settings before publishing.

I mean you could be right about them sharing it amongst themselves, but the mother I spoke to said she was sitting right next to him the entire time, and she watched him access it through Canvas.
