Assignments that have had grades already entered keep reappearing and there are no resubmissions.

I have had an assignment that was graded and due about a month ago.  In the last few days, several students' show that they have a submission but when I open it, there is none.  The assignment was closed a week ago and this has occurred after that date.  I have tried re-entering the grades several times but every time I log into Canvas these asssignments are still there.  I have tried regrading them from the grades page as well as by going into speedgrader.  These specific assignments were in Quizzes but were open ended questions where the students typed in a response

We have had this happening in our extra credit assignments. We think that when a student looks at the assignment again it triggers the grading. We make sure there are zeros in all grading spots and it seems to not come back. Just a suggestion.

This wasn't an extra credit assignment.  It seems to have just happened randomly for a couple of assignments and it was after they were "closed".  Maybe it has something to do with our being at the end of the quarter - who know!
