Why on earth would Canvas change this feature? The comments within the same assignment allowed me to see the conversation with my student, allowed me to see what I had already typed to them, and we could communicate this way. Now I have no idea what I wrote previously - I have to go up and click on as many submissions as they've made in order to see every single comment of both mine and theirs...before I realized this, I wrote the same comment to a kid 6 times!
Any workarounds?
Hello @afalbers,
Without disclosing the name(s) or grades, are you able to post a picture (or video) of what you are describing?
If you cannot do that, I would recommend that you contact your school's Canvas team or (if available for your schools Canvas license) Canvas Support directly.

Hi @afalbers,
Thank you for those screenshots and additional information.
While I am not entirely sure, this might be related to the "Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader" feature option.
Do you have the ability to turn it off or is the new option being required?
If you have the ability to turn it off, do you have the same experience?
Either way, this does not seem to be something that we in Community can fix or work around or provide any other guidance with.
I would recommend either (and potentially both):
Sorry I do not have more information to share to additional guidance.

I am not sure which feature you are suggesting we turn on or off? Also, I cannot even see the students prior submissions, nor my comments on them.
When using SpeedGrading, if a student has multiple submissions in the same assignment, there is a "Submission to view" dropdown menu on the right-side. You can see it in one of the screenshots in the "View Student Submission" section of the "How do I use SpeedGrader?" guide at https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Instructor-Guide/How-do-I-use-SpeedGrader/ta-p/757.
As far of the feature to try to turning off to see if that solves the problem (but I do not think it will), it is "Performance and Usability Upgrades for SpeedGrader" (sometimes referred to as "Modernized SpeedGrader Platform").

My school did nog have an answer.Canvas can you help? Students resubmitted assignment assignments and my comments were gone. I've never had that happen before, but it's happening across multiple assignments.
