When creating a quiz, do I have to upload each question one at a time (single QTI file) or can I upload 1 QTI file that has all of the quiz questions?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @LKV,
May I ask how you're getting your QTI files (making them through a program like Respondus, exporting from another LMS, getting them from a vendor, etc...)? In general, Canvas should have no problem importing a QTI file with multiple questions. Vendors often provide quiz questions this way and it works great. There can be some gotchas with the version of QTI being used, or the formatting of the QTI if you're doing something manually, but I would say that's an issue outside of Canvas itself really.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Chris. I am getting them from a vendor. So it would need to be 1 QTI file containing all of the questions correct?
Hi @LKV,
It can be one file (that'd be the most convenient for you, as you'd just have one upload to do), but it can also be split up. Either way would work in Canvas. From what I have experienced as a Canvas admin, vendors will usually either provide one file for a whole book, or they will break their files up by chapter/unit. A single QTI file can contain multiple quizzes and/or banks, it's all dependent how the vendor decides to do things.

Oh okay. So I do have multiple QTI files now and it will only let me import one. The 'import' button greys out after 1 upload. I want them all in one quiz.
Hi @LKV,
Ah, I understand now! That is something I think you'd want to reach out to the vendor about to see if they have a version where everything is combined into one quiz. When you import a QTI, if it's using question banks, you can choose the bank to use for each upload, but you can't do that (as far as I know) for quizzes themselves.
