I am the "lead professor" in a large course where I want to create independent groups (where all students use the same course site but assignment submissions go directly to group facilitators. I need to know how to create separate "gradebooks" for my course facilitators so that therir students assignments and discussion boards go directly to them to grade and respond to any questions their students might have in the course.

You can create sections and then add your group facilitators to the sections so that they can grade their sections. Depending your institution you might have sections set up already to allow you to sort your gradebook by section.
