Students are required to leave a comment on the Discussion board but their comments are only showing up in their individual Assignments section of Canvas. They do not show up in the Discussion. Also, students are unable to reply to other students' comments because no comments are showing up. I did NOT check the "Disallow Threaded Replies" box.
How are students submitting the reply? On the Discussion itself, there should be a Reply option at the bottom of the post. Students need to select that before responding. If they are going to the assignment section and opening from there, they might be accessing the submission, which gives a Comment panel on the right side of the screen. That would be why they see it where they do and not in the discussion.
Here is a guide to responding as a student: https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Student-Guide/How-do-I-reply-to-a-discussion-as-a-student/ta-p/33...
Yes, there is a reply button on the bottom and they have attempted to use it, as have I. Our university IT administrator looked it over for me and everything is set up correctly for the Discussion, exactly as I've set it up for the multiple times I've taught the class. It seems like it is a glitch. She submitted a ticket about it to Canvas this morning.
Have you tried going into your test student mode and clicking on Reply? Does it let you type a reply or give a message?
This does sound more like a glitch, so now I am curious if it is or if something else is going on.
Check what @Gabriel33 mentioned, just in case.
Did you make it a group discussion with groups of size 1?
