EPORTING DISCUSSIONS please!!!

When when when will there be a feature to export discussions? I see requests for the feature (literally DOZENS chiming in) from 2015 onward. Is this anywhere on the horizon?? PLEASE?

Hi there! According to the Canvas Product Roadmap,  there are quite a few updates coming to Discussions involving AI, but I do not see anything coming up about exporting discussions in a report. 

Have you tried using the inline view in discussions? 

In Canvas discussions, View Inline is a display option that shows replies directly beneath the parent comment in a linear, continuous flow. It is one of two viewing options available for redesigned discussions, with the other being the Split Screen View. 

How the Inline View works

• When you open a discussion, the main post appears at the top, followed by the initial replies.
• Replies to those initial replies are collapsed by default. You can see how many nested replies exist by looking for a link that shows the number of replies.
• Click the "Replies" link to expand and view the nested replies within that specific thread.
• If you want to read all posts and replies on one page, click the Expand Threads button, which is available in the Inline View. 

Here is a link to the guide on viewing options in Discussions. If viewing all replies on one page or having them viewable to print is what you are looking for, this might be helpful!

Thank you for reaching out and for sharing your interest in an export discussions feature. I completely understand how valuable this would be, and I know many users have been requesting it for quite some time. At the moment, this functionality isn’t available, and I don’t have a timeline to share regarding when or if it will be released.

In the meantime, if you’d like, I can suggest some current workarounds that other institutions have been using to archive or share discussions, such as:

1. Copy & Paste into Documents – The simplest approach: highlight discussion content in Canvas and paste it into Word, Google Docs, or PDF for recordkeeping.

2. Print to PDF – Use the browser’s Print → Save as PDF option to capture a discussion thread in a readable, shareable format.

[Discussions] Export Discussions is a feature suggestion that has appeared in our Community before. We currently do not have voting turned on for ideas as we pilot a new roadmap and ideation solution (you can find the most recent project update here) I wanted to share this idea with you so that you know it is in the pool of feedback collected and reviewed for prioritzation by our Product team.
