One of our instructors reported an issue with the equation editor. Directly Edit LaTeX keeps turning on when he is typing in an equation.
Anyone else experiencing this? I've been able to replicate it as well.

Hi @hegeorge11,
This seems strange to me at least. Have you had a chance to contact Canvas support to report this behavior and see what they say about it? It may be a glitch that needs to be reported and bugfixed by the appropriate team.

I found a workaround: If I type R then select subscript and then click on the box where the subscript is before I type eq then Latex doesn't turn on.
It seems that with the latest update to RCE with Discussions Redesign this has changed this behavior for entering equations.
Is this the intended behavior now?

They got back to me and told me this is intended behavior because of the updates to the RCE. This doesn't seem right though since it never did this before. They closed the ticket and that was it.
Hi @hegeorge11,
Thanks for the update. I would suggest pushing back on that response from support a bit, perhaps ask them to escalate the issue to L1.5 or L2 is they have not already. I get these types of responses occasionally too where support says something like "functioning as designed," which really means the design is wrong then. Sometimes pushing back or escalating will help them understand the design needs a revisit, but other times you may need to involve your local Canvas Admins (usually in the eLearning / IT / Digital Education areas) to talk to your Customer Success Manager when support ticket responses seem to be going in the wrong direction.
-Chris
Unfortunately my local Canvas Admin team has accepted that as a solution and won't do anything to escalate the ticket, they closed it on their end too. I'm the one that found the work around, they told me that is what our faculty will have to do : (
