Grace Points on Quizzes

When I was an undergrad, one of my English professors set up his quizzes the following way:

• Quizzes were worth 10 points
• Each question was worth 2 points
• There were six questions

From the above, you can see there were 12 points possible on a 10-point quiz. The remaining two points were not bonus--there was a hard cap of ten points on any quiz. But the idea was that you could miss one question and still get a perfect score.

When I first started teaching, and used paper quizzes, I ran mine the same way. It's easy to do with pen and paper.

But is there any way to achieve this in the Canvas quizzes, either old or new?

Thank you for contacting the Instructure Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with setting up a quiz with grace points. You'd probably want to  use New Quizzes as there is an option to override the total amount of points possible under the edit details tab before you click "build." This way you can have a quiz with single questions that exceed the  overall amount for the quiz i.e. the questions themselves tally up to 12 points but you set the total possible points to 10.  However, this will still apply and divide the amount of points based on correct question. Besides that, you may need to use "fudge points" to adjust the overall score for students. There isn't really a way to apply "grace points" to students that you described. This  is the closest that Canvas quizzes has:

I understand what you are trying to do, but I would suggest making life simpler for yourself. Just have five questions, worth two points each. If you want to boost up the class average, make one or two of the questions a bit easier to answer. In most cases, the simpler, more straightforward solution is the best.

Per Greydon's comment, it can't be done--not through the automated systems. I can do it manually by altering/fudging the grades, but I was hoping for something I could set and forget and didn't have to babysit.
