Hello @edgar_soria

There are two ways you can assign grades for a group assignment in Canvas. You can give each member an individual grade or the entire group can get the same grade.

Here are some articles you may find helpful:
- Creating a Group Assignment

- Grade Group Assignment

I hope this helps.

For this task, I often create the groups first in the People section of the course (I often create different group sets for each project in my class).

After setting up the groups, you can adjust the settings when editing your assignment. In the assignment settings, there is an checkbox for Group Assignment. You will want to turn that on. It will then open up some additional options. When it pops up to create a group set, just back out of that if you already created them. The additional options allow you to choose an existing group set or create a new one, but more important for your question, there is another checkbox. This is the checkbox you want to turn on because it allows you to grade each student individually. They can submit the work as a group, but Speedgrader allows you to given different grades for each student.

As an alternative, I run into a situation with how I frequently grade projects. The design itself is a group grade, but all students are required to submit their own work portfolio. So I actually will do two different grades: project design and documentation. Project design is set up as a group assignment as they all get the same grade for that part of the work. Then Documentation is set up as an individual assignment rather than groups. This way, each student's portfolio is evaluated individually. So two students in the same group may get different grades because of their documentation. This helps address the issues caused when one hormonal middle-schooler decides to rely on their partner to do the work. 🙂
