Identifying Outstanding Quiz Submissions Across Courses/Classes

We're a bit of an edge case I suspect, but we support/administer a large number of courses simultaneously, and one of our routine tasks is to go through all courses, all quizzes, and moderate each quiz to "shake loose" any and all outstanding submissions (quizzes that have auto-submitted at time limit and the student is not on the quiz page at that point). The combination of courses and assignments is typically between 500 and 1000 each time we have to make this check, and maybe only 10-20 instances of outstanding submissions will be found -- in part because some of our instructors do this themselves before we run this sweep. (And even if we made this a "you must do this" task for our instructors, we would still need to run through this process because... you just have to -- no sarcasm, it's important that no one is adversely affected.)

Point being, if there's a report that could be run to identify the specific quizzes that have outstanding submissions, it would really save a lot of time and drudgery. Any ideas/shortcuts/suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @BretH,

The only standard report that is even close to what you are looking for is the "Students with no submissions" found in each (sub)account in the "Reports" area. You can get to that area by following the guidance at  How do I view reports for an account? - Instructure Community - 109  and more information is available at  Canvas Default Account Reports - Instructure Community - 387054.

Unforunately, I do not believe that will work for you because it is not a report for specific quizzes.

You could also try using "Admin Analytics" and the "Students" area while setting up a filter and reviewing the data from "Submissions Breakdown".  That report seems to show individual students and the number of courses without a submission but not individual quizzes.

You would probably need to either (a) develop something internally using Canvas Data 2 or (b) subscribe to Instructure's/Canvas' Intelligent Insights platform.
