I have a couple of questions about the Redirect Tool in Canvas:
Solved! Go to Solution.
@btk just did some testing in our beta environment and found that an account admin can activate a redirect at the account level and select Course Navigation to make it appear in all courses in that account/subaccount.

Hi @btk,
I can confirm what @james_whalley said. I'm a Canvas admin, and I have a couple redirect tools setup at an account/subaccount level so all courses in the account/subaccount have the specific redirect link there.
I did just want to confirm that your link goes to an external site, and not somewhere within your Canvas course, correct? I only ask this because using the redirect tool to create links to areas inside your Canvas course is not something that will work for multiple courses without some careful advanced manipulation. This came up at InstructureCon this year, so it's fresh in my mind as something to ask about. The redirect tool is mainly intended to link to external sites, though I know it's been used for other creating purposes as well.

Hi Chris, I tried testing it out. I have admin access, but I'm not seeing the ability to use the redirect tool for multiple courses at once. I'm finding that I have to manually add it for each course.
Can you help me figure out where I'm going wrong?
Thanks!
Hi @btk,
You'd need to add this from an account/subaccount settings area rather than course settings. When added to an account/subaccount, the redirect will be added to all courses within that area. One thing you cannot do is pick and choose Indvidual courses within an account/subaccount, it's basically either all of them get it or you do it course-by-course. You or teachers could disable the course navigation item from the menu of individual courses if you wanted to though, just as you can with any other menu item from the course settings page.
Hopefully this all makes sense to you! Let us know if you get it to work.

Thank you Chris and James!
Yes, my link goes to an external site, not somewhere within my Canvas course.
