We have visually impaired students who are assigned quizzes through Canvas. Because the immersive reader doesn't work with quizzes, we've had difficulty making quizzes accessible to students. From other community questions and my own testing, I know that screen readers are inconsistent with how they navigate Canvas' quiz interface. I would appreciate any suggestions for workarounds, ideally ones that do not involve a paid integration (we are aware of ReadSpeaker for Canvas and similar options).

Our institutional policy is that in the absence of a wholly accessible quiz solution any student with learning needs can request either a scribe, or a reader, or both from our Dyslexia and Disability support service.
This is an extremely important backstop - there is a thread in the accessibility forum from a student currently experiencing significant difficulties and disruption as a result of proctoring software interfering with their accessibility software...
