Restricting quizzes to a single session

How do we restrict a quiz to use a single session at a time? 

We often find students logging in simultaneously from different devices or even different geographical locations to solve quizzes (potentially collaboratively). Restricting the interaction to a single session at a time will make such concurrent collaboration harder. Logging in from another device/location will automatically invalidate the first session.

Hi @manoharan,

I came across your post when doing a cleanup of the community.  I apologize it was not answered earlier.  I believe what you're looking for is what Canvas calls differentiated assignments.  This guide shows how to set that up (it shows mainly for assignments and single students, but the same basic steps work for quizzes and for sections).  You can set up specific access windows for each section of the course, which I believe is what you wanted to do.

The question was about not allowing students using multiple devices to concurrently login to Canvas during a quiz. Such concurrent logins enable collusion and unauthorized collaboration (via sharing passwords with others).

Your "answer" is not related to the question, and the question is still wide open - even if you chose to close it as "solved".

Hi @manoharan,

Apologies for misreading "session" as "section"!  As far as I know, there is not an option in Canvas to restrict a quiz to a single browser session.  Canvas lets you assign a password to the quiz, which can prevent students without the password from taking the quiz at all (but it doesn't prevent them from multi-sessioning).  Respondus LockDown Browser, a 3rd party paid integration to Canvas, helps lock down a student's device while taking the quiz, and I think may have some other options that would perhaps help you out.
