Retake course

Hello,
As a teacher, can I allow specific students retake a course as a whole once its expiry date is due? For example: a student failed to complete my course within its set deadline. 
Is it possible at all to allow students retake a course as a whole in such case? If possible, how to do it?

I might suggest that you create a Sandbox (Development) course for these students. You could "import" the entire course content into the new course shell and enroll only those students who need to repeat the course. Note that when you "import" (not "copy") the course content, you can choose to import "selected" content and only bring over what your students need. Also, be sure to "adjust" and "remove" the old assignment dates.

I am not sure if my solution would also be acceptable for your needs (I think the response from @SusanNiemeyer is a good option, too!), but I wanted to share this info with you.  My solution essentially extends your existing course for one student.  These are the directions I had provided in another thread (you may need to get your school's Canvas administrator involved if you cannot do this yourself):

1. Click on course "Settings".
2. Click on the "Sections" tab.
3. Add a new section called "Extension".
4. Click on that new "Extension" section, and then click on the "Edit Section" button.
5. Set the start/end dates and times for that student.
6. Click the checkbox for "Students can only participate in the course between these dates", and then click on "Update Section".
7. Go to the "People" page.
8. For the student in question, click on the three dots on the far right side of the student's row.  Select "Edit Sections".
9. "browse" for the "Extension" section you just created, and then click "Update".
10. Repeat steps 8 and 9 for the instructor(s), too.

@Chris_Hofer This is very useful information. This past semester, I had one student who had an Incomplete and needed extra time to complete the course. I ended up keeping the entire course open for all of the students for two additional months. I didn't realize that I could restrict access to just one student.

Yes...super useful!  In my previous role as a Canvas admin, when we first moved to Canvas, I wasn't aware this was possible.  But, somehow I stumbled upon a short video here in the Community that showed the steps I've outlined above.  Unfortunately, I don't think that video is available any more, nor do I remember where the link to the video is located.  These directions could be applied to multiple students as well.  Just make sure that the instructor also is assigned to the same new "Extension" section, too.  😁
