You used to be able to click on a student's assignment through gradebook and speedgrader and score assignments using the turnitin.com tools. Students could look at teacher's comments from the turnitin.com LTI through gradebook and you did not have to have the Assignments Tab visible to them.
Now the only way to access the Turnitin.com features is through the Assignments Tab and students can only view a teacher's comments is through accessing the assignment through the Assignments Tab. I have never given them access to the Assignments tab before and really don't want to.
This has become a huge obstacle to fast grading and has added more time to grade assignments.
The attached picture is what you get when you click on an assignment from speed grader. The login page does not work even if you have a turnitin.com account. your canvas login does not work.

We have not heard from you in a while, I hope this means you found the answer you were seeking.
Since the TurnItIn LTI is developed by a 3rd party have you reached out to their support team to see if this behavior is intended? There could be some parameters that could be adjusted for the installation. It seems that based on the contributions from other members of the community that this issue is not something being experienced under normal circumstances. You might want to reach out to. your distance learning or IT department to see if they can contact TurnItIn in regards to this.

I'm not too certain of an answer for you (as I no longer have access to the Turnitin integration with Canvas), but I am hoping that @dhulsey might be able to shed some light on this for you. Good luck!
Thanks, @Chris_Hofer ! @melissa_metzger , I use the Turnitin LTI tool daily and have not seen the problem you describe. Is it possible that the Turnitin servers were down when this occurred? Or is it possible that some thing in the LTi tool configuration was changed?
It appears to be an "update" from LTI1 to LTI 3. We just have not been able to find a work around without having to use the assignments tab. We are a district that has not had the assignments tab available to students. We haven't been able to find a work around.
@melissa_metzger , we have still not seen the problem you described. I’d love to help you figure this out sometime if you’d like to jump on zoom and share your screen so I can see the problem in more detail as well as the configuration of your LTi tool. DM if you like, and we can set something up. Have you filed a help ticket with Canvas and Turnitin?

Yes! I am in the process of working with our IT support person who is the canvas guru. There seems to be something that went a bit wonky with the LTI 3 upgrade. The different Error codes or login pages kept changing which prompted me to contact them. Unfortunately, it is a slow process because the priority is always the right now stuff. We have a work around with the assignments tab. It's keeping track of those reluctant folks who won't go beyond anything more than 2 clicks.
Hello Everyone! We finally got a sort of solution for this. Our district tech guru finally had a meeting with the canvas reps and it appears both LTI1.1 and LTI 1.3 were both installed. They took off LTI 1.3 for the time being and everything fixed itself.
