I am a university student in Virginia, and also have an anxiety disorder. My anxiety is peaked when I look at my Canvas app on my iPhone to see it's telling me I have four "to-dos". Then I spend a few minutes and find that I have already submitted complete all four of the to-dos, so I have nothing to-do. But every time I pick up my iPhone, I see the "To-Do" reminder and my anxiety makes me check again, and again everything is still complete.
I wish I could ignore the flag, but what if the erroneous things are cleared and new things get added? I can't take that chance of letting coursework slip.
I would politely ask the Canvas iOS App Development Team to please update the application to remove submitted and completed items from the "To-Do" flag and bottom-screen menu bar. It would really help people like me who are already struggling to not be further exacerbated.
Hello @MattSeibert
Thank you for contacting the Instructure Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with your app to-do list and any further frustration is maybe causing you. The to-do list should be updated when you submit assignments. There are instances where things can get stuck or cached or a user's browser or device can even cause the issue. It is likely your internet browser and we recommend clearing the cache and cookies or trying another browser.
In Chrome
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click the three dots
Click settings
On the left, choose Privacy and Security
Then, clear browsing data
At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time. I suggest at least 4 weeks
Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
Click Clear data.
If you are using the Canvas app currently we also recommend doing the same thing:

Clearing the cache on your app should help and likely resolve the issue.
Thank you for the suggestions. I followed the steps on the mobile app, but the problem persists. After logging back in using my Canvas credentials, the "To Do" on the bottom bar still shows "4" (of which 4 items are already submitted and completed).
Are there any other things I might try, other than uninstalling and no longer using Canvas Mobile?
Is there any solution for this? As stated, I have tried the troubleshooting / trial-and-error steps that you presented, but the issue still remains.
If there is not a correction available by Friday, December 23, 2022 I will uninstall Canvas and stop using the app; informing my instructors of the need for me to do this and allow them to take this up through the University processes.

Hi @MattSeibert,
I'd encourage you to report this to whatever Canvas support options you have available through your institution. As far as I'm aware, there aren't any widespread issues with the to-do list in the mobile apps being incorrect (at least nobody from the institution I work for has reported anything like this). The community here is mostly made up of other Canvas users, and we're unable to see specific details about your Canvas courses and what could be going on. Your university's Canvas support should be able to see things in more detail and escalate any issues they can confirm for further troubleshooting and fixes. I am the same way about wanting to get rid of notification flags, so I do understand how frustrating this is. Luckily you can still use Canvas through Safari or other mobile browsers if you do want to uninstall the app (you may even prefer the experience in Safari compared to the app).

Thanks Chris. I have reported this to my university and they said that they cannot fix anything and told me to go here. So I guess I'm just stuck and S.O.L. when using an inferior product for my valuable education. At least by getting it off my phone I can remove that anxiety from my daily life. Not the web version is any better, but at least my phone won't keep reminding me of things I've already done.
Thanks.
