- Bug reports should be submitted to Canvas Support. This way, cases can be connected and uniform updates can be provided to those involved. Bugs will not be triaged in this thread
Hi,
It seems there is an API change included in this deploy, which reduces the availability of the SIS import error log attachment URL to only 1 hour. I am hoping this can be reconsidered. We do automated SIS uploads every 3 hours during the day. We also have a script that runs once per day to look for any errors and report them to us. This API change is going to break our process, and I really don't want to tell our team that they have to re-code a bunch of stuff over the holidays. Could the error log URL work for at least a day? Or am I perhaps misunderstanding what's being stated there?
-Chris
Hi @jpoulos,
Thank for for the clarification of this change. Given the clarified explanation that the expiration is an hour from the call to the sis_import API, and not an hour form the time an error may have occurred, my concern for our processed has been resolved.
-Chris
We're in the same situation--automated SIS uploads every 2 hours, daily reporting script. I share Chris's concern and lack of clarity and would be grateful for more info.
Thanks for clarifying. No more issues here.
I'm excited to see that the gradebook will now have a keyboard shortcut for missing assignments! My only question is why it isn't simply M instead of MI. Adding an additional letter in a keyboard shortcut makes it much easier to input incorrectly and takes longer. It's hard to justify that to teachers who are looking for any time-saving functions they can get.
Hi, @ehills, there are actually a few reasons that we went with 'mi' instead of simply 'm' for this keyboard shortcut for missing. First, it keeps consistency with the 2 characters used with 'ex' for excused. More importantly, we have many users that use Grading Schemes that are based on mastery-based grading models and include M as one of the grades that a student can be given on an assignment and/or as a final grade. And, finally, 'm' is already a gradebook level keyboard shortcut that allows a user to open the menu for the active column’s assignment. You can see a list of other keyboard shortcuts available across Canvas here, if interested.
Hello, this deploy was as of Jan 4th, correct?
The MI feature does not work in gradebook nor speedgrader, is there a setting we need to activate?
I agree with @Nhadley12, the "mi" feature for the gradebook/speedgrader seems broken currently. When I enter "mi" on the grades page, I get the following error:
I'm not sure if Instructure is aware of this or not, but I'll open a case with support. I'd encourage others who see the same issue to open support cases as well.
-Chris
The Gradebook: Missing Status Keyboard Shortcut works in BETA. But when I try it in Production, I get an "invalid grade" error. It was supposed to be deployed yesterday. Was this delayed?
@Nhadley12, @chriscas, and @Sylvia_Ami, I apologize for the slow response to your question and I'm certain you've likely seen that this is now working, but I didn't want your questions to go unanswered! There was a slight delay in enabling the missing shortcut in production, which was due to human error with miscommunication around who would enable the feature. We apologize for the confusion this caused, but hope that users at your institutions are now enjoying the feature and have since it was enabled the afternoon of January 5th. Thanks again for your messages and also for your patience!
@InstContentTeamThis is just a minor comment: In the Canvas Deploy Notes (2023-01-04) under "Rich Content Editor Single Click Toolbar Buttons," add "Increase indent" at the end of bullet list.
Was everything deployed Jan. 4, 2023? I'm not seeing any changes for Printing Individual Assignment Feedback Comments. I tried it in the Print file. The screenshot in the deploy notes make it look like the comments should appear on the Grades page in the UI (not print version) below the the assignment title and no longer have a slider sidebar. Is this true?
@Sylvia_Ami, to show the comments below the assignment in the UI and the print file, you will need to first click Show All Details in the top, right corner of the student's grade page.
I think this is a great feature! I have two questions:
Is there a maximum character limit for the comments that show up on the gradebook?
Have you considered including rubric notes in this feature?
Thank you,
Matthew Skaggs
Does anyone have a fix for this? The comments were moved to a pop-up window on the right of the grade sheet view when looking at an individual student's grades. This used to appear under the assignment itself. By moving them from the assignment, there is no way to share those comments when printing or saving the grade sheet for the parent or student--they can only see a comment was made, but each one must be clicked on to read them, which cannot happen on a printed report. This makes it very difficult to explain WHY the grade is what it is.
@JoannaOtey, to show the comments below the assignment in the UI and the print file, you will need to first click Show All Details in the top, right corner of the student's grade page.
