How to turn on Course Pacing for all courses across the entire account or Sub-Account?

Under Feature/Integration Setup, it says:

"Course Pacing involves the Course Pacing feature preview, which can be allowed on a course-by-course basis or turned on for all courses across the entire account."

I can see that if I enable Course Pacing it displays the unchecked checkbox for teachers to check under their Course Settings which covers the course-by-course basis, but I see no way to turn on for all courses across the entire account or Sub-Account.  I think course-by-course basis is probably our preferred way but we may have a Sub-Account where it would be nice to turn on by default for all the courses under that Sub-Account.  Perhaps that functionality has not been implemented yet for this Feature Preview?

@ward_michael if you navigate to the sub-account you want then go to "Settings"-->"Feature Options" you should be able to enable course pacing for all courses in that sub-account by enabling it. If you lock it, then teachers will be unable to disable it for their courses.  You can do this on a sub-account by sub-account basis if you're not looking to do it at the universal/root level.

@canvas_admin Hi Mark, yes, I already turned on that Account level feature but that only covers the course-by-course basis where it does display that option in Course Settings for Teachers to enable it (even if I enable the option only displays but is not enabled yet). 

But I do not see the second way that the documentation mentions where there should be a way to enable for all courses (not just display the option for Teachers to go and enable but to also set the course option for Course Pacing to enabled state so the Teachers do not have to go enable that option themselves).

Not sure if that second way is just not implemented yet or if the documentation needs to be reworded.

@ward_michael I apologize if I'm misunderstanding. By turning the feature preview on at the sub-account level, it should by default turn it on for all the courses within that sub-account (see screenshot below).

However, if when you enable it, you also select the "Lock" option then not only will it be on for all courses within the sub-account, but teachers will not be able to turn it off for any course within that subaccount (see  screenshot below). 

 

Am I not understanding your question correctly? Apologies if not.

@canvas_admin  Hi Mark, I think the confusion is when setting the tool to Enabled under the Admin Settings Feature Options then all that is doing is "Allowing" and making the Course Pacing option available/visible to enable in each individual course.  But it does not check mark/enable Course Pacing in all of the courses as the default is still unchecked when you go to each course.  There is not a way to check mark/enable Course Pacing in all courses.  Except for certain Sub-Accounts (divisions/departments) where it would be nice to turn on Course Pacing by default so the instructors would not have to turn it on themselves, then for the majority of courses it makes sense to leave it turned off by default and if an instructor wants to turn on then they have the option to do so.

So I think the wording on the documentation may need to be reworded to make that clear.  The Course Pacing option is actually made "visible" not on a course-by-course basis but across an account or Sub-Account.  Then if it is made visible then the option can be enabled/turned on on a course-by-course basis.

I see now.  That is definitely different functionality than what is typical for feature options. I wonder if it is due to the nature of Course Pacing itself since you have to set up the pace within the course?  The way our sub-accounts are structured, it would not make sense to input 1 pace for all the courses contained in a particular sub-account, but I could see some sub-account setups where that would be feasible and even desirable.
