I am new to Canvas (Aug 2014) and this was my first InstructureCon so I was really looking forward to your session. I watched the videos from last year and was really impressed with how fun and informative your session was. I wasn't disappointed! We have a 1:1 program with iPad beginning this Fall so I was really excited to get some good tips. Thanks so much for sharing your experience and knowledge with mobile learning!!!

 @janejump ​ Best wishes with your new 1-1 iPad program. I'll be really curious to hear how it goes and learn from your experience. I am just finishing a two week residential program. I have been especially fascinated by the eagerness of our students (average age of 47 that are senior health care leaders) to do more with the iPad. For many, the default device is iPad and smartphone first, laptop second. I'd expect that from ~18 year olds, but not from 47 year olds.

@David Numme, the process has been interesting. We did a pilot with the ipads in our education and Nursing programs before launching this fall's multi-discipline offering of courses. Those students had a steep learning curve but ended up embracing the technology (at least most students). The enrollment numbers for this fall's courses haven't been what we expected so far. We had a staff member help out this summer with admissions and registration, and comments from students regarding the iPad courses wasn't what we expected. They were actually staying away from those courses because they were afraid classes would be more challenging learning the ipad as well as the course materials than those that were not using the iPads! These were dual enrolled and recent high school graduates, so there goes the age issue! We are a two-year institution which gets a different student base than many four year institutions, but the comments were still surprising. It will be interesting to hear student opinions at the end of fall semester to compare to these initial comments.

You might be pleasantly surprised. I work in an 18 month program and numerous of our students enter the program very skeptical. Most of the skeptics come away convinced of the iPad's educational value. I hope your enrollment numbers increase and your students find ways to use the iPad to improve their education.
