Utah State University - HigherEd
Allow students to blaze their own learning path through a course. This session will focus on how we leveraged the Learning Paths Tool (a JavaScript add-on to Canvas) for student choice and engagement in high-enrollment, online courses. Learn how to design a student-centered environment to promote independent learning. (Bring your own s’mores.)
hey there! I'm not finding any info online about this tool - can you link out to any resources you have?
@raynev ,
Thanks for asking about the USU Learning Paths tool. Currently, this is only available to USU faculty, so we don't have much documentation on the tool itself. My colleague @kenneth_larsen and I received a 2015 Canvas Grant to develop this tool, and we presented at an OLC conference last year showing how the tool works. You're welcome to view our slide deck to get a basic understanding of the tool. Realistically, this tool plays a small role in comparison to using the inherent features of Canvas in the course @ewander and I will be presenting on at InstructureCon 2016.
How many different access points do you think students are using to find the first assignment in your course?
We're mining data on assignment access points, and the influence of due dates on student behavior in an online course. The data from our course may make you reconsider how you're designing yours. And don't miss our colleague A00015317's presentation Canvas Data - What It Tells Us About Course Design to see more about how we're using data to influence our course designs.
